Install Tile Floor Over Plywood

If you add a layer of plywood or cementboard however you could raise the floor by as much as 3 4 inch not including the extra height added by the tiles themselves.

While tile can be laid on plywood do not install tile directly onto the plywood subfloor itself. When it comes to mortar latex or epoxy options are best for installing tile over tile. Check for dips in the floor by sliding a 4 foot to 6 foot straight edge in different directions all around the room. Then you want to install screws into the concrete board in each of the holes. Use a thin set product to install ceramic tile over existing tiles. Use intervening layers of two sheets of plywood.
