Away from the toilet wax ring. Lay out the heating element according to your installation plan and floor markings. Keep the mat 4 in. Install the mat up to the area where the vanity cabinet or pedestal sink will sit but not under it.

Keep the mat at least 4 in. Press each tile into the mortar wiggling it gently to seat it. If you have a heated underlay on your floor either heating wire or a heated mat you can install your tile directly on top of it. Electric radiant heat mats with wall mounted thermostats are easy to install under new tile floors and provide comfortable invisible heat at a reasonable cost.

Lay out the tiles as if there was no heating element below them. You can also use hot glue double sided tape or very thin 1 4 strips of duct tape if the subfloor is too hard for staples. Spread mortar on the floor using the notched edge of the trowel to create deep grooves in the mortar. Use hot glue staples or duct tape to secure the mesh part of the heating roll to the underlayment or subfloor every 6 8 inches being sure never to staple the heating cable.

Check the tiles for level and adjust as needed. That can cause excessive heat buildup. Use tile spacers to keep an even grout line. Away from walls showers and tubs.
